About Monique
It all started with a backpack...
Monique Gibson
Monique founded I Love Africa in 2005. Her devotion to authentic travel experiences started with a backpack and the promise of a job in Italy at the age of 18. Three years and 10 countries later, she returned to South Africa with an unshakable love of people that enables her to create unforgettable tours for our clients.
She loves travelling (obviously), being barefoot (preferably in a forest), finding waterfalls and dancing in the rain. Her backpack continues to travel.

When not planning travel adventures for clients, Monique can be found enjoying the world of software development where she is equally passionate about building self-managed teams of self-proclaimed tech-nerds.
She is always encouraging them to take leave and travel.
Without a doubt, Monique is planning her next travel adventure right NOW!
THE I LOVE AFRICA PHILOSOPHY - ITS ALL ABOUT BUTTERFLIES
I have always wanted my work to be about more than just making money which is why the butterfly effect philosophy has become central to my business model. A small change can result in a large effect.
I believe (and have experienced) that when we travel - we change. We also have the potential to change others by impacting the lives of people in the places we visit and choosing where to spend our money. I am biased, but I do believe that Africa has a heart and soul like no other continent I've lived on. Africa makes me smile and my commitment to you is that a % of your travel booking will go towards a local sustainable social impact project.
If you'd like to know the details of where your donation has gone, just let me know. Let's share the smiles!
